2020 Our New Commander - A message

Glenn E. Cook is our new commander .

EMAIL HERE

WE NOW HAVE A SCHEDULE FOR MEETINGS
............ SECOND MONDAY at 6PM each month.

Next Meeting is 9 MARCH. The District Commander Will Attend  !

Our calendar of events will be made available as it develops.
Some of the things we do each year ARE:

Memorial Day -   Place Flags on Graves
APRIL (date)  -   Host American Legion Riders
Date to Follow -  Hosting a MEET AND GREET at the Legion Hall

We have a veterans memorial plaza in the front of the Hall and one of our fundraisers is memorial bricks to place in the plaza.

The lounge is no longer open No alcohol is served here. We are looking for member and community input on suggestions for the use of this meeting area.

The town of Jay wants to lease the baseball complex on a long term basis. Ideas welcomed.

If you will, please email our commander and confirm or provide your own email and phone number which will only be used for official business. It can help clarify our membership. Thank you.

The Commander notes he is new at this and new with information letters like the one he sent with the above information.  If you would like to offer help to do a quarterly newsletter, that would be appreciated.

In addition, please let other veterans and Legionnaires know about this blog.  Most information for any newsletter will hopefully be in this blog as well.  It can be printed and given to your fellow members and veterans.

IRISH Blessings for Chaplain of Post 121

Vic Campbell presented a challenge coin from USS O'Callahan shipmates to the CHAPLAIN for post 121 Barnett Hendricks. The coin will transfer to succeeding Chaplains. The coin carries the seal of the ship USS O'Callahan DE/FF 1051 . Learn more about Chaplain Joseph O'Callahan  on those pages.

Barnett Hendricks receives the challenge coin with Glenn Cook - presiding
The seal includes a shamrock and a Christian cross.  The shipmates of USS O'Callahan began a ceremony and tradition to encourage the use of the seal to pass along an Irish Blessing.  The holder of the seal is to say a prayer for a veteran or other individual while touching the cross on the seal and in doing so the remembrance of Father O'Callahan and his shipmates in USS Franklin in WWII will bring to the one offering a prayer for a veteran - an IRISH BLESSING.

This meeting also included the changing of officers and a plan for placing flags on veterans graves for Memorial Day 2018. Those who wish to help with flag placement - please contact our leadership.

The story of one Irish Blessing from USS Franklin. Over 700 sailors died that day. This one did not.
