IRISH Blessings for Chaplain of Post 121

Vic Campbell presented a challenge coin from USS O'Callahan shipmates to the CHAPLAIN for post 121 Barnett Hendricks. The coin will transfer to succeeding Chaplains. The coin carries the seal of the ship USS O'Callahan DE/FF 1051 . Learn more about Chaplain Joseph O'Callahan  on those pages.

Barnett Hendricks receives the challenge coin with Glenn Cook - presiding
The seal includes a shamrock and a Christian cross.  The shipmates of USS O'Callahan began a ceremony and tradition to encourage the use of the seal to pass along an Irish Blessing.  The holder of the seal is to say a prayer for a veteran or other individual while touching the cross on the seal and in doing so the remembrance of Father O'Callahan and his shipmates in USS Franklin in WWII will bring to the one offering a prayer for a veteran - an IRISH BLESSING.

This meeting also included the changing of officers and a plan for placing flags on veterans graves for Memorial Day 2018. Those who wish to help with flag placement - please contact our leadership.

The story of one Irish Blessing from USS Franklin. Over 700 sailors died that day. This one did not.
